Programs for Children with Special Health Care Needs

Connects infants and toddlers with developmental delays or disabilities from birth up to their third birthday to needed service in their area, regardless of parent’s income.

Children’s Medical Services

Assures that eligible children with chronic health conditions who are residents of the state of Georgia receive specialty medical care. Provides services for children from birth to 21 years of age.

Governor’s Council on Developmental Disabilities in Georgia

State planning council in charge of public policy research, analysis, and reform, project demonstrations, education, and training.

Georgia Department of Education Division of Exceptional Students

Helps local school systems provide special education and related services for children with disabilities.

Georgia Advocacy Office

Advocates for individual rights, assistive devices, and other assistance for people with developmental disabilities and mental retardation.

State of Georgia Regional Boards

Regional boards oversee the network of state-supported Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities, and Addictive Diseases (MHDDAD) community and state hospital services in the region.  For information on your local regional board, visit the link above or search the Online Special Needs Database under the Regional Board service category.

Parents Educating Parents and Professionals

Assists with educational problems, IEP's, and holds workshops on special education laws.

Division of Family and Children Services (DFACS)
Processes application for deeming waiver, provides subsidized child care services for eligible families and temporary assistance to needy families.

Universal Newborn Hearing Screening and Intervention

Links hospitals, primary health provides, and public health agencies to ensure that all newborns are screened for hearing loss and referred for treatment, if needed.
