IV. Leading Level
F2F and its collaborating partners will create opportunities for
families to be leaders by building parent/professional
collaborations to increase decision-making capacity and involvement
at local, state and even national levels; and to be leaders in
identifying and influencing needs and policy issues that impact
parents and families of individuals with special health care needs.
In the Leading Level, parents use their knowledge and capacity to
identify and influence needs and policy issues that impact parents
and families of individuals with disabilities and special health
care needs across the state. Knowledgeable and experienced family
members can become Child Health Advocates. These Advocates can
provide families guidance in navigating the many layers within the
health system, and would have the power of P2P and its community
partners in their advocacy and leadership efforts. They will help
disseminate information at the state level. Families can also
receive Peer-to-Peer training. This is one-on-one training specific
to topics offered in other formal training opportunities in which
families may not have been able to participate.
