IV.  Leading Level

N2C and its collaborating partners will create opportunities for families to be leaders by building parent/professional collaborations to increase  capacity and involvement at a state and even national level; and to be leaders in identifying and influencing needs and policy issues that impact parents and families of individuals with disabilities.

In the Leading Level, parents use their knowledge and capacity to identify and influence needs and policy issues that impact parents and families of individuals with disabilities across the state. Knowledgeable and experienced family members can become Parent Partners.  Parent Partners will assist families by providing educational information designed to enable them to effectively advocate for their children with disabilities.  Parent Partners will inform families of their rights and procedural safeguards under the law and support families by providing strategies for building positive relationships with school systems.  Families can participate in a Leadership Development training series of trainings and/or receive Peer-to-Peer training, both focused on specific topics related to the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and No Child Left Behind (NCLB).

  • Parent Partners:  Support families by supporting and monitoring medical issues that will affect policy and systems change
  • Leadership Development:  A training series designed to develop parent leadership skills that will include emphasis on IDEA and NCLB
  • Peer-to-Peer Training:  One-on-One or small group training about a specific education-related topic
  • Leadership Network: Parents, Professionals, and Trainers who are leaders in their communities working together to encourage and promote continued active participation in advocacy on disability and educational issues and involvement on a state level.
  • N2C Review Council:  Council of randomly selected parents who have accessed N2C services who will monitor and evaluate services and programs provided by N2C
