Georgia Child Care Inclusion Project
Assistance to Georgia Parents and Child Care Providers

An inclusive child care program is one that includes children with special needs into daily activities in their natural environments.  Throughout the state of Georgia, there are Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies, which employ Inclusion Coordinators who are committed to providing high quality, inclusive child care for all children.

An Inclusion Coordinator works with parents of children with special needs by offering:

  • Referrals to child care programs (Family Child Care, Group Day Care and Child Care Centers)

  • Ongoing support while their child is enrolled in a program

  • Information regarding community support and resources

  • Opportunities for training on topics related to children with special needs

Inclusion Coordinators also work with child care providers by offering:

  • Technical Assistance through on-site visits or phone consultation

  • Strategies for including children into programs

  • Techniques on working with children who are exhibiting behavior problems

  • Professional Development opportunities on a variety of topics

  • Community resources

  • Ongoing support while a child is enrolled in the program

In addition, the Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies each have a Lending Library on site, which is geared towards children with special needs and the people who support them.  Child Care providers, parents and other agencies can check out items from these libraries.  Items include:  books, videos, curriculum kits, adaptive toys and equipment, highchairs, cribs, riding toys and more.  To get more information, please contact the local Child Care Resource and Referral Agency in your community.

To find the Inclusion Coordinator that serves your county, go to the Online Special Needs Database and Search under the Type of Service:  "Inclusion" and select your county.

You can also access information on coordinators and child care enrollment tips at the Inclusion Project Web Site.

HIGHLIGHTS

If children live with pity, they learn to feel sorry for themselves.

If children live with encouragement, they learn confidence.
