Individual and Family Counseling

The services of Psychiatric and Psychological professionals is an important component of raising a child with a disability. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor that deals with mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders. A psychologist is a non-medical professional educated in the science of the mental and behavioral characteristics of the individual or group. These professionals can diagnose and treat mental, emotional, behavioral, and cognitive disorders, but only psychiatrists can prescribe medications. Psychologists can also treat or counsel the other family members either individually or as a group as they cope with the myriad ongoing issues faced in raising a child with disabilities.

Parent to Parent of Georgia's Special Needs Database is an information and referral service for families caring for children with special needs. Call 1-800-229-2038 or go to www.parenttoparentofga.org/database.htm  to search the database for such resources as:
